Biography
Silencio was created by Julien Demoulin (by accident) in august of 2001. It began as a sound-collage project which resulted in dark, intuitive and lo-fi tracks. This process eventually gave birth to the album "Sehnsucht", which came out on French label Grand Téton in 2004. In between, Julien teamed-up with friend and keybordist Nicolas Lecocq; together they started working on the basis of the next album, which marked a departure from the very abstract caracter of "Sehnsucht". Melodies made their way into the music, and dressed Silencio’s electronic soundscapes with guitar and piano. "Grünezeit" came to life, and was released by Belgian label Carte Postale Records in september of 2005. At that point the duo had played shows accross Europe twice.
Julien and Nicolas alternatively spent some time in Germany studying; the follow-up to "Grünezeit" was conceived in Frankfurt am Oder, after a Scandinavian trip during which lots of field recordings were made. "Where you are and where you want to be" includes a lot of those, unlike previous releases, and also features a wider range of influences, from slow-core to glitchy electronica and ambient. It was released on Canadian label Music Made By People in march 2007.
After that, Silencio returned to its initial one man project state. May of 2007 sees Julien embark on a tour accross France, Germany and Poland with bands Melmac and Sun Plexus, from French label Ronda.
